The altitude of Watervale enables the Grenache vines to give a large spectrum of flavours to the fruit. This is a delicious, pretty wine. It has body and length, and lovely high notes of licorice and leather, are rarely found in the wines from the Barossa or McLaren Vale.

Winery Profile
Fireblock (formerly Old Station Vineyard) is owned by Bill and Noel Ireland, who purchased the almost-70-year-old Watervale vineyard in 1995. The vines planted in 1926 (3ha of shiraz and 2ha of grenache) are dry-grown, the riesling (1ha) was replanted to the Geisenheim clone in 2008 when town water became available. Watervale Riesling, Old Vine Shiraz and Old Vine Grenache are skilfully contract-made, winning trophies and gold medals at capital city wine shows
