Expert Reviews

Only grand cru from the first pressing. Grapes from Avize, Le Mesnil, Bouzy, and Ambonnay. Slightly bound in the nose with young, beautiful, withdrawn aromas. Subtle, very thirst-quenching taste in a fine, creamy, bubbling apparel, with aromas of peach, flowers, and passion fruit. Pure, fine, resounding note with several taste layers, vanilla being the most tangible together with the minerality.Rating 90 - Richard Juhlin, Champagne Guide (Oct/2008)

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Appaerance

The colour is brilliant, pale yellow with silvery highlights, evidence of the high proportion of Chardonnay. The bubbles are fine and form a lasting and delicately creamy ring of mousse.

Aroma

The nose is subtle and fresh. The initial mineral aromas quickly develop into green, floral scents with hints of elderflower and spicy cinnamon overtones.

Palate

On the palate, its flavours are dominated by intensive fresh citrus fruit. These then give way to a much fuller, well-bodied and mellow taste with flavours reminiscent of white peaches in syrup. The finish is long, rich and extremely expressive.

Food Matching

This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif and as a delicious accompaniment to grilled fish and seafood.

Grape Varietals

`Prélude Grands Cru` introduces a magic moment : to discover a new blend by Taittinger, made from 50% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims area (Bouzy, Ambonnay), 50% Chardonnay from Cote des Blancs (Avize, Le MEnsil sur Oger) thus obtaining the finesse and structure which a great Champagne requires if it is to be laid down for any length of time.

Winery Profile

Taittinger is one of the last remaining family-owned Champagne houses. In 1931, Pierre Taittinger purchased the historic Champagne house, Forest-Fourneaux, and a year later re-named it Champagne Taittinger.

Revered by critics all over the world, Champagne Taittinger is the very definition of French sophistication, elegance and finesse.

Located in the great regions of wine growing Champagne , the Champagne Taittinger vines cover 288 hectares evenly distributed over 34 different vineyards , which include some of the appellations finest . With varietals consisting of 50% Pinot Noir , 15% Pinot Meunier and 35% Chardonnay , the Taittinger vineyard is an unsurpassed expample of the Houses own style , in which Chardonnay plays such a significant role.

The Vineyards own production is supplemented by contractual acquisition of grapes from independent suppliers operating the finest vineyards in Champagne.

In proportion to its size , Taittinger is amongst the great Champagne houses , one of the growers with the largest supply from the Cotes des Blancs , the preferred place of origin of the Chardonnay grand crus.
