Description:

The fruit was harvested in the cool of the night to preservefreshness and quality. Following gentle pressing, minimal fining agents were used to preserve the natural vibrancy and structure of the variety. Layering was created through the inclusion of oldbarrel fermentation with natural yeast strains, along with further

maturation on yeast lees to generate subtle creaminess and balance the great natural acidity from this vintage. Before bottling, the wine was blended, stabilised and filtered, with the final result being a great food pairing wine with good length

COLOUR

Vibrant ruby red

AROMA

A complex array of caramel and oak spice with underlying dark fruits and cherry.

PALATE

Raspberry, cinnamon and dark chocolate, well integrated velvet tannins with a subtle peppery tannin line from whole bunch inclusion.

Winery Profile

After nearly three decades of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wine brands, the Zilzie winery was built in 1999 with the first vintage released under the Zilzie name in 2000.

The increasingly popular and distinctive Selection 23 range was introduced in 2004, while 2008 saw the re-release of our Bulloak range.

2009 has seen the culmination of many years dedication to selective vineyard sourcing deliver the “REGIONAL COLLECTION” of Zilzie wines. We’ve combed Australia’s best known wine regions, specifically targeting the varieties they excel at, for exceptional grape parcels to produce these wines.

We’ve come a long way in 10 years, with our winery tripling in capacity, and our range growing from the humble beginnings of four varieties, to now include consumer favourites such as Pinot Grigio, Moscato and Rosé.

It’s not all about size, Zilzie is also recognised for its exceptional quality, having won 27 trophies in its short history and is the only winery from our region rated 4.5 stars by James Halliday in his 2009 Wine Companion.
