Provenance and collectibility. The WSSA0010 is a first-year example of the reinvented Santos de Cartier, the reference that reintroduced the collection in 2018 with QuickSwitch and SmartLink and reset the model`s standing in the modern market. It has since been superseded by the WSSA0029, which makes 2018-dated original-run pieces the ones buyers seek when they want the launch reference rather than the current production.
Design and dial. The square case with rounded corners and eight exposed bezel screws is the most recognisable silhouette Cartier produces, drawn directly from the 1904 watch made for Alberto Santos-Dumont. The silvered opaline dial with steel Roman numerals, blued-steel sword hands and the seven-sided crown set with a faceted synthetic spinel is the classical, most liquid configuration in the range.
Movement. Powered by the in-house Calibre 1847 MC, an automatic with 23 jewels beating at 28,800 vph and a 40-hour reserve, engineered with anti-magnetic protection for daily wear. Hours, minutes, seconds and date, with 100 m water resistance — genuinely usable rather than dress-only.
Condition. Graded Excellent. Case and bracelet retain their original polished and satin finishing with only light handling marks consistent with careful ownership; dial, hands and crystal present clean. The 35.1 mm medium sits across a broad wrist range, which is the size doing the strongest trade in this reference.
Inclusions. Offered as a full set — original Cartier box and papers — accompanied by a certificate of authenticity as a separate document, and with the original Cartier calfskin strap alongside the steel bracelet. Complete-set examples with both straps command a clear premium over watch-only a
