The definitive status Rolex. The Day-Date has been the brand`s flagship since 1956 — the first wristwatch to combine self-winding, waterproof construction, chronometer certification and a day spelled out in full — and has only ever been produced in precious metal. Reference 118238 is the sixth-generation 36mm President, introduced in 2000, bringing wider lugs, an engraved anti-counterfeiting rehaut and solid-link bracelet construction to the classic format. Discontinued and increasingly sought after, it represents the last of the 36mm Day-Dates to run the long-serving 3155 calibre.

Factory diamond dial in champagne — the premium configuration. This example carries Rolex`s own diamond-set hour markers over a warm champagne base, a factory configuration rather than an aftermarket addition. Diamond-dial 118238s trade at a clear premium over standard baton and index examples, and the champagne base is the classic pairing against solid yellow gold — bright without tipping into brash. Day aperture at 12 o`clock spelled in full, date at 3 beneath the Cyclops.

Calibre 3155 — the proven workhorse. Rolex`s in-house automatic with 31 jewels running at 28,800 vph, offering roughly 48 hours of reserve, hacking seconds and the Double Quickset function that allows day and date to be set independently via the crown without running the hands around the dial. COSC-certified chronometer, housed behind a screw-down caseback with Twinlock crown for 100m water resistance.

Excellent condition throughout. Solid 18k yellow gold case with crisp lines and a sharp fluted bezel, dial clean and unmarked, President bracelet presenting tight with minimal stretch and closing on the concealed Crownclasp. Wears exactly as a 36mm solid-gold President should — substantial on the wrist at around 12mm thick, yet slim enough to sit under a cuff.

Box only, with certificate of authenticity. Supplied in its Rolex presentation box. Original Rolex papers are not present with this example; however, the watch is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine Rolex, providing documented assurance in place of the factory warranty card.
