Whole-berry ferment, pressed to barrel (34% new). Matured for 12 months. 2020 produced effortless wines in Margaret River, and shiraz really shone. Vibrant and fluid, this has layers of raspberry, red licorice, blackberry and loads of spice. The tannins are certainly very present, and do inhibit the flow of fruit across the tongue, however the prismatic nature of that fruit is hard to suppress. All hail 2020.

Winery Tasting Notes

Voyager's Shiraz has been going from strength to strength and this example, from a cooler season, is another leap forward. Sourced from select parcels from four Shiraz blocks, it offers the understated elegance of the Voyager style: bright and juicy, with hints of earth and spice.Hand-harvested whole berries were fermented with gentle hand-plunging and pump-overs. Following ferment, the wines were pressed, transferred to barrel and matured in quality French oak (34% of which was new). The wine was matured in barrel for 12 months and racked periodically to aid clarification. The parcels were then blended prior to bottling in July 2018. It's a spicy, meaty and complex Shiraz.

Winery Profile

Voyager Estate is located in the premium wine producing region of Margaret River, Western Australia. Latest statistics show that, although only producing 4% of Australia's wine by volume, Margaret River wines account for 23% of the country's premium wine production. Voyager Estate is proud to be among the select wineries that contribute to this production. Our oldest vines date back to 1978, just over 10 years after vines were first planted in the area. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide. We leave it for wine lovers and our visitors to judge for themselves.
