20+yo vines, machine-harvested, crushed/destemmed, open-fermented, 10-16 days post-ferment maceration. Has good colour; the wine spent 12 months in French oak (30% new), but for all the world looks as if either chips or oenotannins have been added (both perfectly legal) because of the thick mouthfeel. Three bronze medals at Australian wine shows are deserved, the Blue-Gold at the Sydney International Wine Competition '16 seemingly generous.- James Halliday

The 2014 Blackwood Captain James Cabernet Sauvignon from Western Australia's Blackwood Valley is a bold, full-bodied red wine. It features rich aromas of ripe blackberry and dark cherry, complemented by notes of liqueur chocolate and earthy loam. The palate is dense and opulent, showcasing concentrated dark fruit flavors with a touch of spice and fine tannins. With an alcohol content of 15.3%, this wine is well-structured and suitable for cellaring up to 10 years
