Expert Reviews

The 2024 Grenache Rosé is ultra pale in the glass, and the aromas on the nose are subdued. On the palate, the wine is likewise pale in color, with vague notes of white strawberries and watermelon. Nice, crunchy, simple wine here, although it seems the pursuit of color has overtaken the pursuit of flavor. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.- The Wine Advocate

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Pale, dry and refreshing, with lifted aromas of rose petals, strawberry, raspberry and citrus. The palate is crisp and vibrant, showing juicy red berry and pink grapefruit flavours, fine mineral acidity and a clean, savoury finish. An elegant, food-friendly rosé.

Winery Profile

5 Star Winery - James Halliday's Wine Companion 2013

Willunga 100 is based in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia, about 40 minutes south of Adelaide. Founded in 2005, the company is a joint venture between quality UK based importer, Liberty Wines, owned and operated by David Gleave MW, and industry veteran John Ratcliffe. A 4.5 Star rated winery by James Halliday, he believes Willunga 100"has hit the scene running, with outstanding value for money."

The wines up until 2009 were made by one of Australia’s most dynamic and awarded winemakers Steve Pannell, assisted by Kate Day. Kate working previously at Mitchelton Wines, Mount Adam and Wellington Wines Tasmania. They are still made by Kate and we are lucky enough to have the experience and expertise of Tim James who has joined us. He is well known on the wine-judging circuit, and was the Managing Director of Wirra Wirra Wine Company for seven years until 2007, and before that was Production Director at Hardy's.

We source our fruit from an array of vineyards, some of which are up to 50 years old, reflecting the character of the area and the varieties from which they are made.

It has been a tradition to hang an Olive Branch above your door to announce the release of a great vintage wine. This blend is appropriately named after this great tradition.

Awarded the Top Gold Medal at Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2011!

Willunga 100 is very proud to announce that the 2010 Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Grenache has been awarded a Top Gold medal at the 2011 Melbourne Wine Show in the Best Rhone Styles - Shiraz and/or Grenache Based Blends category.

There were 6 Top Gold recipients, the other 5 all being Shiraz, so we were judged to be the best Grenache in the Show!

The wine was also one of the 12 finalists to be tasted off for the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy.

A wonderful result for a wine we are very proud of.

  • The history of the ownership of an object, especially when documented or authenticated. Used for Artworks, Antiques, and Wine.
  • The records or documents authenticating such an object or the history of its ownership.

Whenever you buy wine there is an inherent risk, as wine is a perishable good regardless of whether it is sealed under cork or screwcap. At GraysOnline we minimise the risk to you by providing as much information as possible regarding the provenance of the wine we sell.

We take the time to individually inspect each bottle and photograph it so you know exactly what you are buying. All Private Cellar wine stored at GraysOnline is kept in a temperature controlled wine storage area. Any wine that doesn’t meet our quality standards will not be sold.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Wines displaying a 5 star designation are recognised as being of proven quality provenance, our team has verified that the wine has been stored correctly from original purchase straight from the winery, documentation, where possible, has been sighted and cellaring conditions have been inspected. This wine generally comes from only the best and most respected of wine collectors in Australia.

★ ★ ★ ★

Wines displaying a 4 star designation have been cellared correctly as verified by the current owners. In general these wines have been purchased from retailers or traders and stored in cellared conditions from original purchase.

★ ★ ★

Wines displaying a 3 star designation are in good condition when we inspect and we are able to confirm some cellaring conditions but we are unable to verify all ownership and storage conditions of their history.

A wine displaying no stars doesn’t mean that there is a problem with the wine, it simply means that we have been unable to verify provenance, however a quality image is always available for the purchaser to make their own purchasing decisions.

Private Cellar wine is wine which has been stored for aging purposes in a Private Cellar.

Storing the wine and allowing it to age has the potential to improve the quality of the wine. While wine is perishable and capable of deteriorating, storing the wine can alter the aroma, colour, mouthfeel and taste of the wine in a way that may be more pleasing to the taster.
