Small batches of grapes are gently crushed and then transferred to five tonne headed down open fermenters. These batches remain separate until final blending. Foot treading is undertaken two thirds of the way through fermentation. The wine is then basket pressed and transferred to a mixture of new and used French oak barriques to complete fermentation. The barrel ferments are aged on lees, there is no racking until final blending and no fining or filtration.

Expert Reviews

This a powerful expression from a dry and warm year, but it’s leavened with some suppleness of texture and an energy of delivery – when given air. It has a hard-won quality, with craggy, rocky mineral notes and scrubby dried herbs, fruit notes both red and black – savoury but not desiccated – cured meats, licorice and tar. The tannins have the commanding house signature, but there is a certain refinement here, a succulence not always on show.- Marcus Ellis
