Rob Frewer, the owner of Jones Road wine estate, always takes a hands-on approach throughout the year especially at vintage when the timing is critical for optimum Baume, pH and acid levels. The winery was born in 1997 when the Frewer family established a vineyard at Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula overlooking Westernport Bay. The maritime climate of this region produces some of Australia’s best cool-climate wines because of the late-ripening, the fertile soil and careful vineyard management.

Winery Tasting Notes

This Chardonnay was prepared with minimal filtration to protect purity and complexity. Poured into a glass, it reveals a light straw colour. The nose offers floral and complex aromas of grilled hazelnuts, vanillin, spice, nougat, ripe pears and grapefruit complemented by fresh-cut new oak. Fine acidity and savoury nutty barrel- fermentation flavours give structure to the palate, which eventually culminates in a crisp mouthwatering finish.

Winery Profile

The Frewer family established Jones Road vineyard in 1997 at Somerville on The Mornington Peninsula overlooking Westernport Bay. The maritime climate of this region produces some of Australia's best cool climate wines because of the late ripening, the fertile soil and careful vineyard management.

Since those early days we have secured lease on 2 other vineyards here on The Peninsula. One on the Port Phillip side, close to the water and the other at Balnarring near the Westernport Bay. This has increased our vineyards to 60 acres. With these extra parcels of fruit it gives the winemakers an opportunity to blend from the different sites, mixing different terroirs.

Matt, the vineyard manager has gained recognition for his attention to detail and care of his vines. This has lead to other vineyards requesting his advice and operational skills. He is now caring for another six vineyards on The Peninsula.
