The 2024 vintage began with a relatively dry winter and early spring, prompting early budburst and flowering. Pre-Christmas rain contributed to fresh and vibrant flavours. Ideal weather during harvest led to a balanced crop. The Riesling grapes were gently crushed and destemmed using a must chiller to preserve their fresh flavours before being pressed into refrigerated stainless steel tanks. After five days of settling, the clear juice

was racked off the lees, inoculated with yeast, and fermented at a controlled temperature of 12-14°C to highlight the bright citrus aromas. After fermentation, the wine underwent heat and cold stabilization, preparing it for packaging.

Winery Tasting Notes

COLOUR

A light pale lemon hue with a glimmer of white gold.

NOSE

Lush tropical aromas of pineapple and passionfruit are balanced by delicate citrus blossom and honeysuckle.

PALATE

Crisp and refreshing flavours of lemon-lime zest, grapefruit and quince take centre stage. A silky mouthfeel transitions into a long, clean and mouth-watering finish, with lingering notes of quince and minerality.

FOOD MATCH

1838 was the year Walter Thomson, with wife Jane, arrived in Australia and established a winemaking tradition. Faithful to his approach, our estate grown parcels are carefully tended by our vignerons to create wines of great intensity.

Named after a landmark building beside the majestic River Murray in South Australia, the Riverland region has the greatest days of sunshine and a pristine climate for premium grape growing on our limestone soils.
