Expert Reviews

New label out of the Treasury Wine Estates stable. Affordable Central Otago pinot noir. It is intended – this is a wonderful sentence – to “appeal to consumers with its quirky and niche NZ branding that is visually engaging and will prove to be a wonderful conversation starter when dining and drinking.” The name refers to the fact that pinot noir is generally considered to be a “fickle mistress” – in the vineyard. Nikolai St George is credited as the winemaker in the corporate release but the wine is actually made by Greg Rowdon.

Decent wine. Not profound but it doesn’t need to be. Sour cherries, some twiggy/nutty/bitter notes. Reasonable slash good length. Has a chewy firmness to it that I like quite a lot. Smoky, almost reductive aftertaste. Tangy acidity. Not bad at all. Feeling generous.

Rating 90 - Drink 2012 - 2015+ Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front (16/MAY/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

After a particularly fickle vintage in 2011, our Mistress has emerged to perfectly embody the seductive and alluring qualities of Pinot Noir.

Hailing from central Otago, a celebrated Pinot Noir region, this wine demonstrates “A mouthful of complex texture and regional characteristics, culminating in an expressive savoury finish,” says Greg Rowdon, Winemaker.
