Wine Summary Image

The 2014 growing season was a testing but rewarding one in the Clare Valley. Winter rains were solid but a very warm summer saw day time temperatures often in excess of 35’C. A predicted rain event in February had wine producers on edge but it proved to be the vintage saviour with the soaking giving vines a much needed drink whilst resulting in little to no disease pressure. Early signs suggest wines of a similar quality and style to the lauded 2012 season.

Knappstein’s Hand Picked Riesling is a reliable performer – and often better than that.

This release is in the middle of its general quality range. Good fruit intensity, a sense of style, and a clean tangy finish – without being anything scintillating. Steely apple, lime and spice is the order of the day. Fennel and floral notes if you look hard enough. Good summer drinking. Aroma

The wine has youthful talc-like aromas combine with bright lime juice character and bath salt highlights.

Palate

The palate is juicy and lively with the lime juice theme continuing and mixing with a quinine twist. The wine finishes with a dry flinty character and shows tremendous persistence.
