Croser was created as it was believed that the right region in Australia could produce sparkling wine to rival Champagne. That region is Piccadilly in the Adelaide Hills. The first vintage of Croser was released in 1985

and the winemaking philosophy continues today starting in the vineyard where all the vines are hand pruned, the grapes hand picked, the fruit whole bunch pressed, and the wines hand crafted in the traditional method.

Expert Reviews

93 Points - This traditional method 64/35/1% pinot noir/chardonnay/undeclared fruit is crazy value for what it offers. Lovely strawberry fruit, fine frothy mousse, delicious balance.

Winery Tasting Notes

Croser Non-Vintage Rose is a perfect partner to the Croser Non – Vintage

Sparkling wine. A blend of 100% Pinot Noir fruit sourced from selected cool climate vineyards across the Adelaide Hills and combined with several back vintage reserve wines of Pinot Noir delivers a sophisticated Methode traditionelle Rose Sparkling. Fruit for this wine was harvested after our Pinot Noir for Vintage Croser to allow the fruit to develop some riperflavours and aromas adding to its complexity. The Pinot Noir is whole bunch pressed or crushed with free run juice kept separate. After settling the juice is fermented in a combination of 80% stainless steel, with 20% fermented in old oak barriques for added complexity.

Winery Profile

The unique Piccadilly Valley, 25 minutes from Adelaide behind Mount Lofty, is a cool, high rainfall viticultural region, climatically ideal for the production of Croser.

The Piccadilly Valley was chosen based on the belief that selected cool sites in the valley would produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of moderate sugar, high acid and finesse of flavour. Croser matures on yeast lees in the cool cellars of the Bridgewater Mill for two years before remuage and disgorging. The pristine flavours, defining acidity and elegant fruit structure sets Croser apart as one of Australia’s few aperitif style sparkling wines.

Croser is an age-worthy wine so each year a small proportion of each vintage is held back and allowed to mature for ten years prior to release. Croser Proprietors Reserve wines are identified by a red strip entwined in the cigar band, which guarantees the wine has been stored on lees at Petaluma’s sparkling cellars and disgorged prior to re-release to ensure freshness.
