Expert Reviews

A 46.6/44.8/8.6% blend sourced from the Yarra Valley. First tasted in Feb '10, this wine disgorged 27 months later in May '12. Pale straw-green, good mousse; has considerable elegance, finesse and length. The one query is the slightly elevated dosage, although I can't work out the rationale. Regardless, great value. Ratting 93 - Drink by 2016 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (APR/2013)

Crystal clear with a fine persistent bead and fresh lime green hue.

Aroma

This wine displays the distinct lemon / lime characters of cold climate Chardonnay, with added complexity of white stone fruit and Pinot Noir characters coupled with yeast autolysis. Aged Chardonnay characters of toast, butter and mushroom are complemented by earthy truffle flavours of mature Pinot Noir.

Palate

This sparkling wine has an elegantly structured palate with great persistence of flavour with a soft, creamy texture and a fresh, natural acid finish.

Food Matching

Enjoy with fresh seafood and lighter poultry dishes.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Altitude and style define the very essence of Yarra Burn wines. It is on the steep slopes of the Yarra Valley that the Yarra Burn wines begin, with every hillside offering its own nuances of style and character. Grape varieties are matched to their ideal conditions, then tended with vigilance and precision, creating intensely flavoured fruit of rich complexity.

History

The Yarra Burn winery was a pioneer of the Upper Yarra over 30 years ago. In fact, it was at Yarra Burn that founders David and Christine Fyffe produced the very first Yarra Valley sparkling, as well as one of the first Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blends in Australia. And this innovative thinking continues at the winery today.

Region

Winemaker for Yarra Burn since 1999, Mark’s passion for making great wines is evident in everything he does. Yarra Burn has given him the perfect avenue to achieve this, with sparkling and cool climate wines that showcase the Yarra Valley at its finest.

A serious sparkling wine, although not bottle-fermented; the flavours are of citrus and stone fruit, the latter almost sweet, the palate long, the balance very good. Rating 91 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011
