Wine Summary Image

Clyde Park vineyard was established in 1979 with small plantings of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Further plantings have expanded to include Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. The site consists of undulating north easterly slopes. The soil varies from silt/clay to sandy loam with basalt over a limestone base. Plantings on our north easterly slope provide exposure to sunlight, whilst the river flat area offers warmth and wind protection. Viticulturally the site produces premium fruit of low yields providing balanced wines of great purity, complexity and finesse.

Planted between 1995 and ‘98, the D block comprises 8 acres of vines on the vineyard’s south facing slope. Facing away from the sun means this site is slightly cooler than the North Slope. The soils consist of dark brown volcanic clay-loams at the top, to black clay-loams towards the bottom. A mixture of MV6, G5 and 114 clones the fruit was selectively hand harvested and fermented separately in open top small vessels. Hand plunged with a portion of whole bunch. Ferment temperature was controlled with a portion of extended maceration.

Winery Tasting Notes

Medium dark crimson colour, initial impressions are alluring. A sweet intense perfume of sour cherries, underlying savoury charcuterie notes and a salty biscuit character that amalgamates the aromas. The palate is silky and complex with power yet restraint. A full mid palate intensity is supported by mature structural tannins. The finish is long and fine with a beautiful note of lavender potpourri to finish.
