The name Dog Point dates back to the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district. These were the days where, due to a lack of fences, boundary riders used boundary keeping dogs to protect the local flocks of sheep.

BOB CAMPBELL MW

96 Points

Subtle oak allows stone-fruit, mineral, citrus, struck match and nutty lees flavours to take centre stage here. It contributes to the wine's rich and creamy texture. Complex, with a funky character.

Winery Tasting Notes

Dog Point is an icon of New Zealand’s most famous wine region Marlborough. Renowned for making impeccable wines from hand-picked, estate grown fruit, this sauvignon blanc is a brilliant example of their handy work. Intense aromas of tropical fruits combine with mineral and green citrus notes and a touch of oak. The palate is full bodied and stacked with concentrated citrus fruit flavours. A great partner to fish, poultry and vegetable dishes, or with aromatic white cheeses. Can be cellared for 2+ years.

Winery Profile

Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable wine-growing experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and James and Wendy Healy.

Our philosophy is total involvement by the partners from the vineyard through the winemaking process to marketing regionally distinctive and vineyard expressive wines.

Marlborough's Wairau Valley is the major grape growing region of New Zealand, a confined geographical area at the northern tip of the South Island. Abundant sunshine, low rainfall and cool autumn nights characterise our long growing season, enabling the slow evolution of a rich array of vibrant fruit flavours.

Fruit for our wines is sourced from selected vineyard plantings dating back to the late 1970's. These older well-established vines situated on free draining silty clay loams are supplemented with fruit from closely planted hillside vines with a clay loam influence.

CAMERON DOUGLAS MS

95 Points

Complex, developing bouquet with aromas of preserved lemon and quince, peaches and apples, a core of stony minerality, layers of lees spice and a completeness. Equally complex on the palate, calm and confident, balanced and still fresh. Flavours reflect the nose with preserved citrus, apple and stone fruit highlights. The lees and acidity along with barrel ageing give this wine a fresh silky texture and lengthy finish. Balanced and ready, complex and long. Drink now and through 2024+
