Notes from the winemaker: ‘The name Flint Rock epitomizes the fine mineral structure and savoury elegance of wines grown in the wildly remote and awesomely beautiful Great Southern of Western Australia. Our regional selection draws upon the varietal heroes of the 3 primary sub-regions; Mt Barker, Porongurup and Frankland River to craft wines with regional typicity and purity. The continental, cool climate of the Great Southern is favoured for growing Shiraz. In the Frankland and Mount Barker sub-regions, where Shiraz reigns, the wines display a great intensity of dark fruits with traces of spice, earth and guiding tannins.

Winery Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep crimson with purple hues.

Nose: Aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum, black cherry, cracked pepper, mocha, smoky spice and subtle vanilla oak.

Palate: Full-bodied and richly flavoured, showing layers of black fruits, dark chocolate and liquorice, supported by savoury spice, cedar and well-integrated oak. The fruit is balanced by fine, grainy tannins and fresh acidity, giving excellent structure and length.

Finish: Long, smooth and persistent, with lingering blackberry, pepper and mocha notes.

As a leading personality in the emerging Australian wine industry, Geoff also established a high profile internationally, most recently as consulting winemaker in Italy making wines for the UK market and as a respected judge at Australian and International wine shows.

Geoff Merrill's wines have been successful at Australian and International wine shows, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 2005 Melbourne wine show. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 29 Trophies, 143 Gold , 373 Silver and 1181 Bronze medals.
