Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma: A complex and mature nose featuring tobacco leaves, dark chocolate, and black fruits. It displays distinct varietal markers like tomato leaf, capsicum, and blueberry, with added layers of cedar, leather, and clove from oak maturation.

Palate: A seamless balance between the two regions—Coonawarra provides the linear structure and fine tannins, while McLaren Vale contributes a juicy, plush mid-palate filled with plum and blackcurrant. You may also find savory notes of olive tapenade, coffee grinds, and a hint of charcuterie.

Finish: Long and well-balanced, concluding with refined, persistent tannins and confident acidity.

Having gained a reputation as a maker of innovative and elegant wines Geoff established his own business in 1980 and quickly achieved significant success in both Australian and International wine shows.

As a leading personality in the emerging Australian wine industry, Geoff also established a high profile internationally, most recently as consulting winemaker in Italy making wines for the UK market and as a respected judge at Australian and International wine shows.

Geoff Merrill's wines have been successful at Australian and International wine shows, including the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy at the 2005 Melbourne wine show. Since 1980 Geoff Merrill Wines have won 29 Trophies, 143 Gold , 373 Silver and 1181 Bronze medals.
