What is an evaporative cooler and how does it work? Evaporative air cooling is a natural way of cooling a room, and mimics the cooling effects of a breeze. It consists of a fan or blower that draws in outside air and passes it through a wet filter. As hot, dry air moves through the filter, water evaporates, cooling and humidifying the air. The cool air is then blown throughout the room. An evaporative cooler works best when its location creates a "flow through" effect i.e. near an open window or door.
