A refined Margaret River Shiraz — combining ripe, generous dark-fruit richness with savoury/herbal complexity, spicy oak and a polished, elegant structure. Plush, ageworthy, and versatile: suitable for pairing with grilled or roasted red meats, game, or hearty stews — yet polished enough for cellaring a few years or enjoying with a special meal.

Winery Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet to ruby-red core with a slightly purple rim. Rich colour typical of a well-structured Margaret River Shiraz.

Nose: Aromas of black and dark red fruits dominate — think blackberry, black plum, and cherry plum. Underlying that, expect savoury touches of leafy notes, subtle black olive or herbal complexity, with hints of dark spice (pepper, anise/ginger) and gentle mocha or cocoa-driven oak character from French-oak maturation.

Palate: Medium-to-full bodied. A succulent core of ripe dark fruit — black plum, boysenberry — framed by soft berry fruits, with an undercurrent of savoury olive/herbal tones. Expect a peppery, spicy accent (pepper, perhaps a hint of ginger/anise) that adds complexity. The oak influence should bring mocha/cocoa notes and a subtle savoury-spice richness. Texturally, the wine is likely smooth and plush, with a generous, velvety mid-palate and ample concentration.

Winery Profile

History

Howard Park Wines was established in 1986 and was one of the original pioneers of the Great Southern region. The founding owner of Howard Park, John Wade ventured west to Western Australia's South West with one belief: "I don't know any other region where you can produce both Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon as premium wines". This founding belief began the journey of Howard Park.

Now over 20 years on, Howard Park remains a family owned winery under the guidance of Jeff and Amy Burch. With a philosophy to produce wines of distinct regional character with an uncompromising commitment to quality Howard Park has forged an international reputation for their wines and an expanded range including single vineyard and multi regional wines from Margaret River and the Great Southern.

"We have worked towards establishing Howard Park as a premium family wine company. This success will be measured by the work we do now for future generations."  Jeff Burch

Our Philosophy

This founding two region philosophy aligns with Howard Park's wine making philosophy which adopts an ethos for integrating the old with the new. Howard Park embraces modern technology whilst employing traditional wine making techniques and produces internationally recognised wines of the highest quality. As a result our Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines are only ever produced in very small quantities, but are noted for their rare balance of elegance and power with a proven history of ageing with increased complexity and interest.

"We have a simple philosophy; premium wine can only come from excellent fruit. Simply, we go to wherever the fruit grows best." Jeff Burch
