A SOLID EXAMPLE...

90 Points

Negroamaro is catching on and I dig. This is a solid example that is well priced. Go forth and embrace. Hailing from Puglia in southern Italy, its name means "blackest of the black". Sourced from the Barossa Valley, the fruit is grown by the well-known Kalleske family. Sitting behind a veil of exotic spices you find pretty purple flowers, juicy red berries, and a hint of chocolate. Perhaps a lick of carob too. Medium-bodied, there's good energy about the way it moves with a soft acid to close. A wine that walks with a relaxed stride, enjoy this as you sip it slowly by the fire or have with smokey barbeque food and you have a smashing combo. Drink now to three years.

Winery Tasting Notes

Appearance: Deep, intense inky purple.

Aroma: A complex nose of gamey aromatics, sweet dried herbs, cherry cola and raspberries.

Palate: A complex and balanced palate with flavours of dark brambly fruits, black cherries and thyme. Earthy notes and hints of white pepper supported by fine tannins lead to a moreish finish.

Summary: A medium bodied aromatic red intended to be enjoyed in its youth.

Winery Profile

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference.” Robert Frost, The Road Not Taken.

During a fleeting half century in the global wine community, the Hesketh family has always followed the path less travelled by. As a result their winemaking philosophy is somewhat different. They only produce wines from the most celebrated grape varieties, from only the most acclaimed regions for producing those varieties, wherever they may be, anywhere in the world.

One of an emerging breed of cutting edge global Négociants, Hesketh wines are hand made from carefully selected vineyards in the worlds best growing regions. These three wines are just the beginning of the story, with exciting new releases from further abroad to be added in the new year.
