Wine Summary Image

Geoff and Susan Bull were early viticultural pioneers on the East Coast of Tasmania, establishing Freycinet Vineyard in 1979. It is situated adjacent to the picturesque Freycinet Peninsula, (latitude 42 degrees), which is named in honour of the French explorer Louis de Freycinet, who chartered the region in 1802. The 15 hectare vineyard is proudly family owned and the wines are 100% grown, produced and bottled on our estate. The site is a warm sheltered one within the truly cool Tasmanian climate. The vineyards are meticulously hand tended to grow moderate yields of fully ripe healthy fruit. The rustic winery houses 'state of the art' equipment to ensure wine quality is not lost. The wines are produced with great care, dedication and passion - they are a delicious liquid expression of our unique place on earth, the varieties and the season.

Winery Tasting Notes

Surging fine bubbles lift from the glass a glorious aroma of citrus fruit and delicate floral blossom honey. A complex palate displays an exquisitely layered spectrum of flavours from brioche, grapefruit, mandarin and clementine, honeyed nuts swathed with creamy, softy yeasty complexity. With each sip the palate is left refreshed by gentle acidity. The benefit of extended maturation on yeast lees is evident in the harmonious palate and deliciously long, moreish aftertaste.

The Real Review

96 Points

Light, bright yellow colour with a vigorous mousse of fine bubbles. The bouquet is very complex and mature, bready-toasty, with background lemon meringue and almond bread nuances, mellow and lovely. It introduces a palate that is refined and delicate yet also intense and imbued with the same flavours. The finish is very dry yet soft, clean and refreshing, finished with a touch of tannin that adds pleasing grip and savouriness. (2012, 2013 and 2014 vintage blend. On lees 4 years, 3 years on cork).
