Wine Summary Image

Riversdale Estate is located in the basin of the Coal River Valley, in Southern Tasmania. The Coal River Valley is the second largest wine region in Tasmania.

Riversdale Estate continues to grow each year as a result of the unique growing climates located in the Valley. Riversdale is located in the basin of the valley and is the only vineyard to front Pittwater which gives temperature advantages during the winter and summer months. Due to the climate advantages it is able to produce 9 different varieties with a reputation for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Riesling. Riversdale Estate was purchased in 1980 by Ian Roberts for Angora goat purposes. The first vines were planted in 1991 and are some of the oldest in the region.

Expert Reviews

Silver & 93 Pts - Halliday Rating.

This is a good wine, albeit, far from boasting the northern Rhone aromatics that many claim the region is capable of and that I am yet to experience. This said, I have spent a lot of time in the Rhone; little in Tasmania. Green peppercorn meshes with salumi, tapenade, iodine, blueberry and cardamon. Mid-weighted and beautifully floral. Modest length. Appetising and destined for medium-term ageing. - Ned Goodwin MW, 1 August 2019.

Winery Tasting Notes

Made from young and old shiraz vines, this label showcases great aromatic power, rich berry flavours and pepper finishes with length. This label receives shiraz grapes from differing areas on the property therefore does not show variations in taste from climate differentiations. This label also shows fantastic colour which also aids in it being a very good example of a cool climate shiraz. This label has received many awards which reaffirms our micro climate in its ability to produce great Shiraz (or Syrah).

The 2017 Syrah recently picked up the Trophy for best Tasmanian Shiraz at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge 2018.

It's an elegant, medium-bodied style, silky in its tannins and with lovely shape and flow. A delightful cool-climate style.
