Picked and bunch-sorted by hand, berry-sorted by the destemmer, 3-5 days cold soak, 7-14 days ferment, matured for 21 months in French oak (30% new). It is very full-bodied, but the extract has been controlled, with black and blue berries, ripe plums and a hint of cream to the texture.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aromatically complex and layered this wine first shows notes of dark plums, blueberries and chocolate before more earthy, mineral hints of dusty red earth and boot polish peak from behind. The palate is marked by a controlled creamy mouthfeel with the same primary dark fruit and chocolate notes evident before a fine tannin frame works around the edges and provides just enough framing to allow the fruit a targeted line of travel through the palate. Structural, mineral and bright.

The Schild name has a long history in the Barossa, dating back to 1952 when BenSchild purchased the Three Springs Farm property in Rowland Flat and settled withhis family. Today, second and third generation vigneron’s work side by side tosolidify Schild Estate’s reputation, built on its commitment to translating theunique tapestry of its vineyards into wines that speak of honesty and drinkability.
