For chief winemaker John Kavanagh there is nothing more important than endeavouring to produce wines that display the characteristics of their vineyard source. To this end, the over 60 distinct Pinot Noir lots are individually harvested, vinified, and matured in barrels separately until final blending. In the winery the wines are individually punched down and gently pressed to ensure full extraction without sacrificing elegance. A balanced oak treatment is combined with minimal fining and filtering to help preserve both varietal purity and the distinct terroir characteristics.

Appearance

Deep, rich crimson / cherry red hue.

Aroma / Nose

Bright red fruit: cherries, plums, some wild berries.

Floral lift with perfumed aromatics.

Classic Martinborough savoury and earthy notes adding complexity.

Palate / Texture & Flavour

Supple texture with red fruit flavours (cherry and berry) combined with spicy notes.

Fine, well-integrated tannins.

Depth with some oak spice, though oak doesn’t dominate.

Finish

Soft spice finish with lingering savoury and fruit elements.

Good balance: fruit, acid, and tannins all contributing to an interesting finish.
