The vineyard has southern exposure and sits on the slopes of the Cartizze hill in the Valdobbiadene region of Northeast Italy. Fermented and aged in stainless steel with all hand harvested fruit. Forty miles north of Venice on the slopes of Cartizze, prime prosecco country, is a charming stone house called Osteria Senz’ Oste. The name translates to Tavern Without Host, and the place is exactly that, a place where you take fresh bread, cheese, artisanal salami, chestnuts, cookies, and many varieties of sparkling wine, all on the honor system — or, as proprietor Cesare De Stefani says, “trust in the people.” The hills of the Prosecco DOC area lie between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene about one hour from Venice. This picturesque area, consisting of steep slopes alternating with gently rolling hills criss-crossed by vineyards, starts where the lowlands finish before the Veneto Dolomites begin. A centuries-old winemaking culture abounds in these lands. Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto, Valdobbiadene, and Pieve di Soligo represent a natural, artistic and architectural treasure just waiting to be discovered. It is an oenological delight to go along the Strada del Prosecco e Vini dei Colli Conegliano.
