Expert Reviews

Very bright and juicy

90 Points

Attractive tropical-fruit salad, including papaya and passion fruit. Very bright and juicy, with plenty of pink-grapefruit freshness. A slight touch of grapefruit bitterness adds character at the finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

James Suckling, 10 Nov 2022

Fresh and zesty

89 Points

From Yalumba’s newest commitment to their sustainable journey. Part of “five certified organic wines, sustainably made at the Yalumba winery” which “embodies the brand’s sustainable journey and commitment to the next generation, with a fierce determination for the future.” Yalumba’s first Organic wines were released in 2005 so there’s plenty of form for these “sustainably made” wines. Very pale lemon in colour. Paw paw and rolled-in fresh grass, hints of musk, passion fruit seeds and the thick end of an asparagus spear. Fresh and zesty with underlying earthy Sauvignon blackcurrant leaf qualities. Obvious quality but may scare a few Savvy B traditionalists.

Winery Tasting Notes

Lemon in colour with hints of green. Pawpaw, passionfruit and fresh herbs dominate the aromas. The lovely textural palate has tropical flavours and lemongrass, finishing with a zesty palate and crisp acidity

Winery Profile

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.

Light, delicately aromatic wine

89 Points

Light, delicately aromatic wine with lemongrass, guava, tropical fruit and melon. Gentle acidity gives a dry but not austere finish. An easy-drinking sauvignon blanc with the volume turned down.
