This has such expressive fruit aromas, in the raspberry, red-plum, boysenberry, mulberry and blackberry zone. Primary-fruit complexity here. The palate has a bold core of fruit, very supple juicy tannins and such expressive flavors of blueberries and boysenberries, in a big, mid-palate ball. So drinkable and flavorful. Drink or hold.

Winery Tasting Notes

Crimson red in colour. An alluring bouquet of wild fennel, boysenberry and rose petals, surrounded in subtle notes of smoky oak. A generous palate with loads of boysenberry, chocolate and plum cake. The wine has a silky texture and finishes with velvet-like tannins, making it a delight to drink.

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.

"Juicy and energetic"

A rich, warm climate expression strung across a bow of reductive tension: violet lift segueing to iodine, smoked meat, tapenade and pulpy whole-berry blue fruit scents. Juicy and energetic, with a plume of clove and pepper-doused acidity. Long and admirably crunchy for a wine of this weight.
