Wine Summary Image

Zonzo Estate is located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, 2km West of Yarra Glen. The Yarra River runs along the southern boundary and has influenced the formulation of the rolling hills the vines are planted on today.

The soils are varied as a result of the Yarra River’s activity over the centuries. Featuring predominantly grey loams to grey brown with mudstone throughout. Approximately 90m above sea level the vineyard was planted in 1995. Currently the vineyard is undergoing a transformation with renewed vigour to express the site and varieties through the production of quality small batch wines in the newly built winery.

Winemaking:

Crushed to fermenters both large oak and open tops and stainlesssteel. Ferments were pumped over daily or plunged. Primaryermentation was completed after 10 days. Pressed after 21 days and filled to oak with a portion being 40% new French oak barrels.

Winery Tasting Notes

Berries, tobacco leaf and chalky mineral perfume...

A hallmark of the 2023 vintage is beautiful acidity and fruit weight. Tannins are ripeand integrated with a soft plush red berry fruit and chalky, mineral ripe tannin.

Some dusty tobacco leaf notes evolve with time in the glass and continue to sit beautifully with the other classic Cabernet Franc characters. Elegant and detailed, a lovely year for Cabernet Franc.
