Wine Summary Image

St Hugo is named after Johann’s grandson Hugo Gramp a key figure at Orlando Wines. It is the very best Jacob’s Creek Cabernet Sauvignon and is part of our most premium range.

This wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in South Australia’s famous Coonawarra region, an area considered by many as Australia’s best Cabernet region. The result is a full-bodied wine displaying a rich, textured palate of concentrated cassis and berry fruit flavours with well-integrated tannins.

Expert Reviews

The Riverina, Rutherglen and Hobart wine shows have been a happy gold medal hunting ground for the wine, insiders will know what this means. Strong purple-red colour and powerful palate that is a classic example of the 'doughnut' structure of cabernet lacking mid-palate fruit between a powerful opening and finish.Rating 90 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Winery Tasting Notes

Notes Image

Colour

Full depth red with crimson hues.

Aroma

Intense blackberry and cassis with minty notes and spicy oak.

Palate

Concentrated blackberry, cassis and mint with supple velvety tannins and integrated cedary oak.

Food Matching

Recommended with pan-cooked eye fillet of beef, served with beef jus and Boulangere potatoes. The simplicity of the beef with the crispy dish of thinly sliced baked potatoes showcases the ripe intensity of this wine.

Cellaring Potential

Carefully cellaring this wine for the next 5-10 years will enable further development and integration of the ripe and intense fruit flavours it has come to be known for.

Winery Profile

In 1847, a young Bavarian immigrant called Johann Gramp missed the wine he used to drink in his home land. Instead of changing his habits, he decided to start growing grapes and attempt to make the wine himself. It was a way of adapting to a new country, but still staying true to his character.

What he didn't know was that when he planted the Barossa Valley's first commercial vineyard along the banks of Jacob's Creek, he was also planting the seeds of one of the most popular wine brands in the world that would be named after the waterway.

Today,  Jacob's Creek remains one of the most well known, trusted and enjoyed Australian wines around the world. It delivers fresh, elegant and great tasting wines that show true varietal character.

The philosophy of Jacob's Creek is to offer a range of wines that suit all occasions. As a company, we concentrate on two key things: The first is continuous improvement. Every vintage we strive to improve the quality of our wines by refining our winemaking practices and continually gaining a greater understanding of our vineyards.

The second is that in everything we do, at every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyards all the way through to your glass, we all work with the final destination in mind. We do it for the most important wine critic. You.
