Mahi, meaning ‘our work, our craft’, began in 2001, fulfilling a dream for Brian and Nicola Bicknell. Since their first vintage in 2001, they have built together a great group of growers who are committed to their land and to the wines that come from it. They still work with their original vineyard and over the years we have slowly built an understanding of the sites and now see a continuity and typicity in the wines. Mahi sources sustainable fruit and all vineyards that they work with are under the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) programme.Mahi’s Kuku wines are made to encapsulate the combination of classic varieties and the ways that they express themselves in this cool valley of ours. They are modern wines to suit the foods we eat and the way we live.

Winery Tasting Notes

Mahi Marlborough Pinot Noir is produced from four vineyards throughout the famous Marlborough region, all contributing different characters to this wine. A full and rich bouquet, this wine is mouthfilling, ripe and supple with good complexity.

Winery Profile

This year Brian Bicknell celebrates the making of his twenty-forth vintage, an achievement that has seen him accumulate experience in not only Marlborough, but also in Chile, France and Hungary.

Returning to Marlborough permanently in 1996, Brian identified that individual sites within the region produced markedly different characters. At a time when Marlborough was considered to be producing wines that hid the diversity of the region, Mahi was born. Brian’s vision to showcase the differences and complexities that these terroirs offer, has been exceeded with every single vineyard release.
